A figure stands in a one-shouldered red evening dress, drawn in loose contour lines that leave her face and shoulders as open space. The dress does what an evening dress does — deep crimson, worked folds, all the weight of the image. On one hand is a yellow rubber washing-up glove.

It is the only other colour in the picture, and it is what the title names her for. Not the dress. The glove.

The drawing withholds her expression entirely, which leaves the two halves of the image to argue it out on their own: the version of a woman that gets dressed up and looked at, and the one still doing the washing up. Most women are being both at once, usually before anyone notices.
